Skimpy waist

I bought two of theses jackets: a women's jacket for my wife and a men's for me. Overall we like them. They seem to be roomy enough in the chest and arms. Our one complaint lies in the waist: we're both baffled how the waist was sized. It's nearly impossible to zip up the jacket because it's so tight around the waist. Both my wife and I are in fairly good shape (so far.) We are not carrying extra inches in the waist line. In fact, I'm not sure how someone that might have a few extra pounds would zip up the jacket. Otherwise it seems to be a good article of clothing.
